Death's Pace, Page One
Ouch! Echoed followed by a metallic clank. The silence was
suddenly like the blackness, enveloping and total.
"Great", he thought, "this flashlight was supposed to be unbreakable", but the bulb broke
when it hit the concrete floor. He still slowly lowered himself to the ground and put his
hand gently on the clammy concrete to search for his flashlight. He quickly located the protrusion

| that jutted out of the floor that caused him to stub his toe and cause this
annoyance. After a few minutes of careful searching, he located the flashlight, he wondered
why he had bothered, it was probably cheaper and faster to just buy a new one. The way things
were getting better and cheaper, he could probably get one of those xenon bulb flashlights,
it would make studying the interior of these old forts easier, given the lumens they put out.
Still he put the flashlight in his backpack, along with his lunch, notes, and camera.
